What can you use the app for?

WebSecurityMonitor is an application designed to protect the user’s web presence. The user’s website can be scanned for spam, malware and other unwanted surprises such as hidden iframes or links to malicious websites. The application so identifies third party applications and lets the user know if any are outdated or if a security patch is available. WebSecurityMonitor also consults blacklists to make sure that the user’s URL doesn’t appear on any. The user’s website is also monitored for hacking or defacement so the user can quickly resolve the matter before it begins to affect their visitors. WebSecurityMonitor periodically tracks downtime throughout the day to make sure the user’s site is accessible to everyone. The user receives a notification if any downtime is detected.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

WebSecurityMonitor offers website owners a number of ways to protect and track their website. The application has not yet received much attention from internet users and reviewers. It appeared in 2010 as an effective way to help users keep track of their website’s reputation without spending hours checking on their own. The application currently offers a number of tools to keep the user’s website visitors safe while providing the user with valuable information on downtime.

What are the differences to other apps?

WebSecurityMonitor approaches web reputation management from multiple levels. The application keeps sites free of spam, malware, viruses and other malicious entities. This is a huge plus for overall security and trustworthiness of a website. WebSecurityMonitor goes a step further by also monitoring downtime so the user knows when their site is not accessible. These aren’t new or innovative features, but they get the job done. Additional web reputation monitoring tools, such as a tool for social network profiles, would be a nice touch to complete WebSecurityMonitor’s list of services.
